Inspired by Benozzo Gozzoli's 'Mystic Marriage of Saint Catherine of Alexandria' panel, dated 1466 and housed in the Franciscan Museum in Montefalco, the gold leaf signed by international artist Paolo Canevari as the label celebrating 50 years of the Arnaldo Caprai winery, which will cover 2400 bottles of the limited edition of Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG CINQUANT'ANNI, a bottle created to celebrate 50 years, precisely, of the famous Umbrian winery. Precious, elegant, strongly evocative of the bond between the Arnaldo Caprai winery and its territory and of all the history, traditions and culture that Sagrantino can tell in the glass, the limited edition of the CINQUANT'ANNI Montefalco Sagrantino Special Edition 2016 celebrates not only the important anniversary of the winery led by Marco Caprai, but also pays homage to the entire territory.
"In his eclectic minimalism, Paolo Canevari has captured our company's bond with the territory, as well as the significant parallelism between art and wine, succeeding in synthesising our first fifty years in a label that is to all intents and purposes a work of art. His artist's eye has translated into something tangible what has always characterised us: the constant search for excellence with an eye to the future and our feet firmly anchored in our roots,' explains Marco Caprai, owner of Arnaldo Caprai
Paolo Canevari can be defined as a refined and brutal, ironic and violent, minimalist and baroque artist, without, however, framing him within an aesthetic scheme: in his practice, in fact, he uses various materials and media ranging from sculpture to installation, from drawing to video, although he is mainly known for having used inner tube and tyre rubber in his works since the early 1990s. After living and working for almost fourteen years in the United States and in particular in New York, he currently lives in Rome where he teaches at the Academy of Fine Arts (his full profile is attached).
The celebratory edition of Montefalco Sagrantino Docg CINQUANT'ANNI Arnaldo Caprai with a gold label was handcrafted by involving other important Italian companies: Giusto Manetti Battiloro, a historic Florentine company that produces and sells gold leaf, now led by the fifteenth generation of the Manetti family, which has been practising the art of gold leaf-beating since 1602 (https://www.manetti.com/about-us/la-nostra-storia/); the famous Florentine graphic studio Doni&associati for the design of the graphics contained in the label designed by Canevari and produced and engraved by Giusto Manetti Battiloro. The recommended retail price of the bottle will be 330 euros.
ARNALDO CAPRAI FARM AT A GLANCE
Few other wineries in Italy and around the world are immediately identified just by mentioning the name of the denomination to which they belong, like Arnaldo Caprai, itself a symbol of Sagrantino di Montefalco. A unique reality, synonymous with Italian excellence, capable of creating wines that are out of the ordinary in terms of depth, elegance and longevity: not only reds, but also whites. The credit for this adventure that began in the late 1970s goes to Marco Caprai, Arnaldo's son. It was he, in fact, more than anyone else who believed in the richness of Sagrantino, reinterpreting it in a modern key, through the most innovative production and business management methods, which have enabled him to win the favour of the public and critics all over the world. Not to be outdone by the whites: Arnaldo Caprai's Grecante, 100% Grechetto, managed to conquer Wine Spectator's Top100.
A great company, Arnaldo Caprai, that guards a green soul, considering issues concerning sustainability, protection and safeguarding the environment as fundamental. The point of observation always remains the same: trying to behave in harmony with natural evolution cycles, preserving and enhancing the territory in which it operates. This is why the company decided to create an Environmental Management System that complies with international regulations, developing a voluntary territorial protocol of environmental, economic and social sustainability of the production process.
It is in this unparalleled context that wines of unforgettable substance are born, complex and elegant, capable of narrating the best of an entire region, Umbria.
