Starting on 18 December, Arnaldo Caprai's Montefalco Rosso will accompany all passengers on the new, revolutionary Frecciarossa train route which, for the first time in history, will cross the Alps to reach Lyon and Paris, exporting the Trenitalia and Ferrovie dello Stato high-speed experience to France. The first run, announces FS, will leave on the morning of 18 December from Paris at 7.26 a.m. in the direction of Milan and from the Lombard capital to the French capital at 6.25 a.m., two other runs will be in the afternoon (tickets from 23 euros and 29 euros). The initial two daily round trips between Paris Gare de Lyon and Milano Centrale, via Lyon Part-Dieu, Chambéry, Modane and Turin, will be joined by a further three daily round trips between Paris Gare de Lyon and Lyon Part-Dieu and Lyon Perrache. In all, Trenitalia will operate 10 runs for almost 5,000 seats per day between Paris and Lyon.
"With Trenitalia and Frecciarossa," explains the winery's owner, Marco Caprai, "we have had a fruitful relationship for many years, and we are proud to have been chosen for this important new route. In fact, Trentitalia is the first European operator to enter France since the opening up of the rail market to competition, and with this new route it will offer French passengers, as well as Italians who wish to travel to Chambery Lyon and Paris by the most sustainable, safe and comfortable means of transport, a new travel experience. An experience that we will try to make even more enjoyable with our Montefalco Rosso Arnaldo Caprai, a wine that represents, together with Sagrantino, the symbol of our Umbria".
Arnaldo Caprai's Montefalco Rosso is made from a careful selection of Sangiovese, to which a small percentage of Sagrantino and Merlot is added in equal measure. After a meticulous harvest, the grapes are vinified in steel and then aged for 12 months in barriques, both Slavonian and French oak. After bottling, a further maturation in glass follows, of at least 4 months, to reach the right evolutionary development before release. Ruby red in colour, dark and deep, it smells of fruity and floral notes, enhanced by spicy touches; on the palate it is full-bodied, round, with a well-defined tannic texture and a pleasantly fresh sip.
ARNALDO CAPRAI FARM AT A GLANCE
Few other wineries in Italy and around the world are immediately identified just by mentioning the name of the denomination to which they belong, like Arnaldo Caprai, itself a symbol of Sagrantino di Montefalco. A unique reality, synonymous with Italian excellence, capable of creating wines that are out of the ordinary in terms of depth, elegance and longevity: not only reds, but also whites. The credit for this adventure that began in the late 1970s goes to Marco Caprai, Arnaldo's son. It was he, in fact, more than anyone else who believed in the richness of Sagrantino, reinterpreting it in a modern key, through the most innovative production and business management methods, which have enabled him to win the favour of the public and critics all over the world. Not to be outdone by the whites: Arnaldo Caprai's Grecante, 100% Grechetto, managed to conquer Wine Spectator's Top100.
A great company, Arnaldo Caprai, that guards a green soul, considering issues concerning sustainability, protection and safeguarding the environment as fundamental. The point of observation always remains the same: trying to behave in harmony with natural evolution cycles, preserving and enhancing the territory in which it operates. This is why the company decided to create an Environmental Management System that complies with international regulations, developing a voluntary territorial protocol of environmental, economic and social sustainability of the production process.
It is in this unparalleled context that wines of unforgettable substance are born, complex and elegant, capable of narrating the best of an entire region, Umbria.
